Lets talk about water . . . lets talk about why your body is begging you to drink more! So good for so many different things, plus its a sure fire way to get glowing skin! Do you feel dehydrated? You may not think you are, but lets looks at some clues.
Lack of Energy : Lack of water in your body can make you feel tired, zapping all your energy and leave you feeling drained. Why though? Well water supplies us with energy by carrying oxygen through our blood to our muscles. Making sure you are drinking enough will also help you to avoid muscle cramps & strains.
High Blood Pressure : When you are dehydrated you blood can become thicker and can have a harder time circulating, this will raise your blood pressure. Your body will also produce more cholesterol to prevent water loss through cells. A reason enough to make sure that you water levels are always up!!
Constipation : do you suffer from irregular bowel movements? Drinking enough water is crucial to keeping things flowing down there, you’ll find that if you’re not you will suffer from cramps, pains, constipation which can also lead to bladder infections. This is very true for our little ones too, my little girl had suffered with this for a long time in her early years which also lead to VUR (vesicoureteral reflux).
Joint Pain : pain or stiffness in your joints can be another sign of dehydration. With water making up the majority of our cartilage cushion, you’ll want to make sure your hydrated enough to keep these retaining water!
Weight Gain : so you’re trying to incorporate all the healthy things you’ve been reading about, working out, trying to get those veggies in . . .but the weight still isn’t coming off, what gives?! The majority of the time people are still drinking way too much sugar! Are you only drinking coffee all morning and switching to pop or juice for the afternoon? Start replacing your sugary drink with good ol’water! A lot of times our body is signaling us that we are dehydrated and we think we are hungry! Try drinking a glass of water first and waiting a bit, did those hunger pains go away?
Headaches : I know there are so many things that can cause headaches but here in my house I know that dehydration plays a major part. My hubby will get bad headaches verging on migraines when he hasn’t drank enough. My little girl comes home from school with headaches that sometimes are so bad she’s in tears – guess what, the majority of those days, her water bottle is still almost full!!
Skin Issues : glowing skin, yes okay, here’s one that people can often overlook – when you are dehydrated it is harder for your body to rid itself of toxins. You will notice that your skin looks dull. Your eyes can be red, darker circles under your eyes, bigger bags. Dehydration will bring down the elasticity of your skin making it more prone to premature wrinkles and aging. It can even make you more prone to major skin issues suck as dermatitis & psoriasis. When you drink enough you will have more glowing skin (it can help clear up your skin from minor blemishes!) you’ll find that you’ll have stronger hair & nails too.
We hear it over and over again, you gotta drink your water but who really wants to drink boring old water?! I promise you the more you drink the more of it your body will crave, you get used to it you really do and you may even end up really liking it!! Having said that though, you don’t have to drink plain old water all the time, I love to liven up my water with fresh fruit! Fresh slices of cucumber, mint or lemon are all my faves!
