Makeup Mistakes that Ruin your Skin

March 14, 2017

makeup mistakes prairie glow tiber river

We all try hard to take care of our skin the best way that we know how, but sometimes we are guilty of making these makeup mistakes.  Nobody likes to be told they are doing something wrong, but when it comes to your face – you’re best to right these wrongs right away!

Sleeping with your make up on.   You’ve had a busy day and are flippin’ tired by day end and just want to fall into bed, sound familiar?!  This is no joke, sleeping with your makeup on harms your skin in so many ways.  Clogged pores, which an result in breakouts, eye irritation or worse, infection!  Mascara or eyeliner can clog hair follicles causing styes as well.  Leaving mascara on can also cause your eyelashes to dry out more and become brittle.   Come on girls, lets wipe that make up off!!  When my kiddos are on bed time routine, getting jammies on, doing a quick tidy and brushing teeth this is where I’ll head to my bathroom & wipe my face clean.  My fave product to do this is Rebel With a Cause, good for all skin types working to trap the make up without stripping our skin of our natural oils.

Dirty make up brushes.  These are the little tools that we have and use a lot of times daily, dipping into our make up and onto the skin.  Not cleaning them regularly can lead to a build up of dirt and bacteria growth, product build up & dead skin cells.  Sounds appealing right?  Cleaning them regularly keeps your skin healthier.  Also, I know that I have paid enough for my brushes and taking care of them will ensure they have a longer life.  I clean mine with the same gentle facial cleanser that I use and warm water.  Squeezing the excess water out I reshape them and leave them flat to dry.

Not washing your hands.  How many times have you reached for your make up without washing your hands?  This is just one more way for dirt and bacteria to transfer to you skin which can clog pores resulting in breakouts.  Not to mention that your dipping your dirty fingers into your makeup (if you’re not using brushes) transferring the same dirt and bacteria and contamination your makeup that you’ll be putting on your face!

These are just a few fixes for common makeup mistakes!
